Rajdeep Naik Gets Anticipatory Bail in Cattle Remark Case

The Additional Sessions Court in Mapusa has granted anticipatory bail to Goan artist and activist Rajdeep Naik in connection with a case registered at the Valpoi Police Station over an alleged controversial remark made during a protest in Panaji.

The case stems from a statement allegedly made by Naik during a public protest where he was accused of referring to the people of Sattari as “cattle”. The remark triggered strong reactions in the Valpoi and Sattari regions, leading to protests and complaints from local residents.

Following the outrage, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Naik under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges reportedly relate to promoting enmity and intentional insult, which authorities said could disturb public harmony.

The matter quickly gained attention across Goa, with several groups condemning the alleged remark and demanding strict action. Supporters of Naik, however, argued that his statement was being misinterpreted and called for a fair investigation into the matter.

During the hearing, the court granted anticipatory bail to Naik, providing him protection from arrest while the investigation continues. His legal counsel, advocate Rakesh Naik, represented him before the court.

The controversy surrounding the remark has sparked a wider debate in Goa over political speech, activism and the limits of public commentary during protests. Authorities have stated that the investigation will continue, and further action will depend on the evidence gathered in the case.
