Several gaunkars of the Tivim Communidade strongly objected to the lease of a large tract of communidade land to a Maharashtra-based private university during the communidade’s general body meeting.
The gaunkars questioned the managing committee over the decision to lease the land at a rate of ₹12.50 per square metre, claiming the amount was far too low. The issue triggered tense discussions at the meeting, with several locals asking why villagers were not being offered land at the same rate.

Gaunkars also criticised the committee for issuing show-cause notices to eight members who had challenged the lease agreement in court. According to reports, the notices demanded ₹7.10 lakh from the members towards legal expenses allegedly incurred by the communidade in the case.
The matter has sparked significant concern among the gaunkars, with many seeking greater transparency and accountability from the managing committee regarding the lease agreement and the action taken against those who raised objections.
