Nilkanth Halarnkar has assured that the cold storage facility at the South Goa Planning and Development Authority will be commissioned soon, stating that substantial funds have already been released for the project.
According to the minister, an amount of ₹29.78 crore has already been paid towards the project, and the funds required to complete the remaining work are also available. He said the government is taking steps to ensure that the facility becomes operational at the earliest.

The assurance came amid criticism from Vijai Sardesai, who raised concerns over the delay in commissioning the facility. Sardesai said the cold storage infrastructure is essential for the fisheries sector as it helps extend the shelf life of fish and maintain stable prices.
He noted that the facility would play an important role in ensuring that fish remains affordable for people in Goa, while also supporting fishermen and vendors by reducing wastage.
The project is expected to strengthen the state’s fisheries supply chain once it becomes operational, benefiting both the fishing community and consumers.
