PANJIM: Following uproar, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has withdrawn its circular directing school managements to disburse the salary of their respective staff members for the current month form their own funds.
In a fresh clarification issued on Friday, Education Director Vandana Rao said the salary disbursal for the current month is likely to be delayed. (Related report Pg 3)

“It is clarified that since all the staff members of the General Administration section of the department engaged in processing the salary bills of the aided schools have been placed under home quarantine, the work of preparation of salary bills has been hampered,” she said.
“Therefore it is informed to all concerned that the salary disbursal for the current month is likely to be delayed,” Rao added.
She said that once the staff members rejoin the duties, the salary bills will be processed.
On Friday, the department had asked school managements to pay the salaries of their staff from their own funds since the staff attached to the administration section is home quarantined after one member tested positive for COVID19.
The circular, however, created much uproar after some school managements and opposition parties raised strong objections.
Political parties like Goa Forward Party and MGP slammed the government for the move and alleged that the financial situation of the State stands exposed.
They claimed that several aided schools, especially in the rural areas are not financially sound to pay the salaries of the staff.
