Strict Poll-Day Restrictions Announced in Ponda Constituency

Strict restrictions will be in place across the Ponda Assembly constituency on polling day, with authorities enforcing tight controls around all voting centres. A 100-metre restricted zone has been declared around every polling booth to maintain order and ensure a smooth and disturbance-free voting process.

As part of these measures, all food-related establishments—including restaurants, bars, cafés, tea stalls and small eateries—located near polling locations will remain shut from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. Officials say the temporary closures are essential to avoid crowding and prevent activities that could influence voters.

Additionally, gatherings of more than five individuals have been banned within this restricted radius. The order is aimed at curbing unnecessary movement and ensuring that the polling environment remains neutral, safe, and free from pressure.

Authorities clarified that these restrictions do not apply to polling staff, police personnel, or authorised government officials performing election duties. However, anyone found violating the order may face legal consequences under relevant laws.

The Election Commission and local police have urged residents to cooperate fully, emphasising that these steps are being taken purely to safeguard the integrity of the by-election and ensure that voting proceeds without disruption.
