Fatal Bike-Tanker Crash at Zuari Nagar Kills BITS Pilani Student, Injures Another

A collision occurred near the IAV junction in Zuari Nagar on Wednesday at around 5:15 pm, after a TVS motorcycle rammed into the rear of a tanker.

A 26-year-old BITS Pilani student, Soham Adhikari, is battling for his life following the crash. His fellow student, Karan Narasimha Murthy, a resident of Mysore, succumbed to his injuries at SDH Margao despite prompt medical attention.

Adhikari, a resident of Shantinagar, Ponda, who was riding pillion, remains in critical condition at GMC Bambolim.

Verna Police have blamed the 66-year-old tanker driver, Pedro Ivo Medeira, a resident of Raia, Salcete. According to police, Medeira was travelling from Upasnagar towards BITS when he allegedly turned right into a company premises without checking for oncoming traffic from the BITS–Verna route, leading to the collision.

He has been charged under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125(b), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Medeira was arrested and later released on bail.

The investigation is being led by PSI Carey Fernandes under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and DySP Gurudas Kadam.
