The Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes in Goa has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Government of Goa, urging it to coordinate with the Government of India and initiate the process of notifying reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The organisation raised concerns over delays in implementing the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Act, 2025, despite it receiving Presidential assent more than six months ago. It pointed out that the Act will only come into force once the Centre notifies the appointed date in the Official Gazette.
Highlighting the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections, the group warned that any further delay could impact the timely implementation of political reservation for STs in the state. It also noted increasing apprehension within the community regarding possible hurdles in the rollout of the Act.
The organisation has called on the state government to urgently take up the matter with the Centre to ensure that the notification process is completed without further delay.
