A woman in her 30s was allegedly assaulted by an unidentified intruder inside her residence in Macherla, police officials said. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday afternoon when the woman, a government employee, was alone at home.
According to preliminary findings, the accused gained entry to the house between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm under the pretext of asking for drinking water. Once inside, he allegedly overpowered the woman, restrained her, and threatened her with a knife before committing the assault. Police added that the attacker tied her hands and inflicted further harm before fleeing the scene.
The crime came to light after the victim’s relatives were unable to contact her. Concerned, neighbours entered the house and found her unconscious, following which she was immediately shifted to a local hospital. She was later referred to a facility in Narasaraopeta for specialised medical care. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is now stable, and she remains under observation.
A forensic team visited the scene on Friday and collected fingerprints and other crucial evidence. Police have launched a detailed investigation, forming special teams to track down the accused. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and analysing call data records to identify possible leads.
