Concerns over Goa’s declining tourism industry have been strongly raised by Manuel Cardozo, who believes the sector is facing serious challenges under the current environment. Speaking to the media, Cardozo highlighted that tourism growth has slowed significantly, making it increasingly difficult for smaller stakeholders to survive.
He pointed out that the image of Goa as a preferred tourist destination has taken a hit in recent times. According to him, political interference and decisions have contributed to this decline, affecting the overall perception of the state among travellers.
Cardozo further alleged that government policies are disproportionately favouring large players in the tourism industry, leaving smaller businesses struggling to sustain themselves. He stressed that many individuals and families depend directly on tourism for their livelihood, and the lack of support for these groups could have long-term consequences.
The concerns come at a time when Goa’s tourism sector is expected to be a key driver of economic activity. However, voices like Cardozo’s underline a growing sense of dissatisfaction among local stakeholders, who feel sidelined in the current framework. The issue has sparked debate on whether policy changes are needed to ensure balanced growth.
