MMC Approves Temporary Transfer of HPCL Land to KTCL Amid Councillors’ Concerns Over Traffic and Transparency

The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has approved the temporary handover of land belonging to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) for a proposed project to be executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The decision came after prolonged discussions marked by heated exchanges and chaotic scenes during the council meeting. Several councillors voiced concerns over the feasibility of the project, warning that increased bus movement could worsen traffic congestion within the city.

Members also criticised the lack of prior communication, pointing out that no formal presentation had been made before placing the proposal for approval. They demanded greater transparency and clarity regarding the scope and impact of the project.

Despite the objections, the council passed the resolution, paving the way for the temporary transfer of the land as further details of the development are awaited.
