The Church in Goa has expressed deep pain and anguish over the recent derogatory remarks made against Saint Francis Xavier at a public function in Vasco da Gama, calling for immediate and firm action against those responsible.
In a statement issued by the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media, the Church described the remarks as malicious and deeply hurtful to the sentiments of lakhs of Goans who revere St. Francis Xavier, fondly known as “Goencho Saib.”

The Church has urged authorities to take “immediate, strong and exemplary action” in accordance with the law. At the same time, it appealed to the public to remain calm and exercise restraint in the face of the controversy.
Highlighting the importance of preserving harmony, the statement stressed the need to uphold Goa’s long-standing tradition of peace and unity, cautioning that such divisive rhetoric could disrupt communal harmony in the state.
