Senior officials of the Central Armed Police Forces held a high-level review meeting on Sunday to assess and strengthen security arrangements ahead of the second and final phase of the West Bengal assembly elections scheduled for Wednesday. The meeting focused on ensuring a peaceful and transparent polling process across sensitive constituencies.
The Central Reserve Police Force, acting as the nodal agency for central forces in the state, coordinated the discussions. Over 2.5 lakh personnel drawn from the CRPF, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and Sashastra Seema Bal have been deployed to maintain law and order during the elections.
According to officials, the directors general of all CAPFs joined the meeting via video conference, interacting with officers and personnel stationed across various districts. The emphasis remained on voter security, strict adherence to election protocols, and encouraging maximum participation without fear.
Security forces have intensified ground operations in the lead-up to polling. Regular flag marches, booth inspections, and area patrols are being carried out to deter any potential disruption. Senior officers have also been visiting the state to monitor preparedness and coordinate efforts on the ground.
A key initiative titled Operation Night Dominance has been launched in sensitive areas. This includes increased night patrolling, surveillance, and area domination exercises aimed at curbing anti-social activities and maintaining a strong security presence.
Officials said the primary goal is to create a safe and confidence-building environment for voters. The forces reiterated their commitment to conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The first phase of polling, which covered 152 out of 294 constituencies, recorded a strong voter turnout and remained largely peaceful, setting a positive tone for the final phase.
