Among the frontrunners is BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, who won from Asansol Dakshin in the 2026 Assembly elections with a margin of over 40,000 votes. A former fashion designer turned politician, Paul is being viewed within party circles as a possible woman CM face if the BJP chooses to counter Mamata Banerjee with a similar political profile.

According to party sources, her name has been discussed alongside Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee from Bhabanipur, and state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya. Paul’s political profile highlights her work as a vocal advocate of women’s empowerment and a strong critic of the Trinamool Congress.
