Vijay officially took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, marking a historic political moment as his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), formed the State government after securing crucial post-poll support from alliance partners.
However, amid the celebrations surrounding Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony, social media discussions largely focused on the absence of his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam and their children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha, from the high-profile event.
The actor-turned-politician took oath after days of political negotiations and meetings with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to secure majority support in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. TVK had won 108 seats in the Assembly elections and later received support from Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), and IUML legislators, taking the alliance tally to 120 MLAs.
While several political leaders and celebrities attended the swearing-in ceremony, Vijay’s immediate family remained absent, triggering speculation online. The development comes at a time when rumours linking Vijay with actor Trisha Krishnan have been circulating widely on social media platforms.
Though there has been no official statement from Vijay or his family regarding the absence, social media users quickly connected it to the ongoing rumours. Several posts and discussions questioned whether personal reasons or political protocol led to the family skipping the event.
Despite the online chatter, Vijay remained focused on his political milestone. Shortly after taking oath, he thanked senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for attending the ceremony and also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending his wishes.
In another major development, Vijay also confirmed that he would resign from the Trichy East constituency after winning from both Perambur and Trichy East in the Assembly elections. As per constitutional rules, he was required to vacate one seat within 14 days and decided to retain Perambur, considered his political stronghold in Chennai.
Vijay’s swearing-in has already created history in Tamil Nadu politics, as his government became the first non-DMK and non-AIADMK administration to assume power in nearly six decades. However, alongside the political celebrations, the absence of his wife and children remained one of the most talked-about moments from the ceremony.
