Over 100 Killed in Storms and Heavy Rain Across Uttar Pradesh; CM Yogi Announces Relief Aid

More than 100 people lost their lives after severe storms and heavy rainfall battered several parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, causing widespread destruction and disruption across the state.

According to reports, strong winds uprooted trees and electric poles, while several houses suffered damage due to the sudden weather disturbance. Large clouds of dust engulfed many areas as weather conditions changed abruptly in the evening.

The highest number of deaths was reported from Prayagraj, where 21 people died. Bhadohi recorded 18 fatalities, followed by Mirzapur with 15 and Fatehpur with 10 deaths.

Six deaths each were reported from Unnao and Badaun, while four people each lost their lives in Pratapgarh and Bareilly. Two deaths each were reported from Sitapur, Raebareli, and Chandauli.

Authorities also confirmed two deaths each in Kanpur Dehat, Hardoi, and Sambhal, while one fatality each was reported from Kaushambi, Shahjahanpur, Sonbhadra, and Lakhimpur.

The sudden storm left many stranded outdoors, forcing people to seek shelter under trees and flyovers. High-speed winds reportedly tore apart hoardings, damaged tin sheds, and uprooted several trees in affected districts.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to provide financial assistance to the victims’ families within 24 hours. Authorities have also been instructed to carry out relief and restoration work on priority.
