The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested an alleged kingpin of a major transnational drug trafficking syndicate operating along the India-Myanmar border. The accused, identified as Thachintuang, also known as Chintuang and Tluanga, was apprehended in Delhi after months of surveillance and intelligence-based operations.
According to officials, Chintuang was one of the biggest suppliers of methamphetamine and heroin routed from Myanmar into India through Mizoram, Manipur, Assam and Tripura. Investigators alleged that he managed an extensive network involved in cross-border narcotics trafficking and distribution into different parts of India and Bangladesh.
The NCB stated that Chintuang was wanted in multiple cases under the NDPS Act and had links to several drug seizures across northeastern states. Officials said investigations connected him to drug trafficking operations worth nearly ₹115 crore.
Authorities also identified several close associates involved in the syndicate. Among them was Vungkhanthawna, who allegedly coordinated transportation and delivery of narcotic consignments. Another accused, Lalrampari, allegedly handled hawala transactions linked to drug proceeds amounting to nearly ₹100 crore.
The probe further led to the arrest of Abu Saleh alias Saifuddin and another operative identified as Jabrul, both accused of coordinating interstate trafficking activities through Assam and Tripura corridors.
Officials said financial investigations resulted in the freezing of multiple bank accounts and properties suspected to have been acquired using proceeds from drug trafficking. The Enforcement Directorate has also been informed regarding suspected money laundering operations linked to the syndicate.
The NCB said the network used multiple smuggling routes, local facilitators and hawala channels to transport heroin and methamphetamine across international and interstate borders.
