Former India opener Wasim Jaffer believes Virat Kohli should have ended the on-field tensions with Travis Head after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The heated exchange between Kohli and Head during the high-scoring clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium became one of the major talking points of the match, especially after Kohli appeared to avoid shaking hands with the Australian batter post-game.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer said aggressive behaviour from Australian players is common on the field, but felt Kohli should have moved on once the match ended. He noted that emotions are understandable during intense games, but post-match interactions should remain respectful.

Jaffer stressed that Kohli’s stature in world cricket makes him a role model for millions, adding that every action from the former RCB captain is closely observed by fans around the world. While criticising Kohli’s reaction, Jaffer also admitted that viewers may not know the complete story behind the altercation.
The former opener also described RCB’s crushing 55-run loss as a potential “wake-up call” ahead of the IPL playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a massive 255/4 before restricting RCB to 200/4 in reply. According to Jaffer, such a defeat could help the Bengaluru side identify weaknesses and regroup before the knockout stage.
Jaffer further shared his views on RCB’s opening combination for the playoffs. Despite Phil Salt returning from injury, he backed the in-form Venkatesh Iyer to continue opening alongside Kohli. He argued that current form and match fitness should take priority over reputation during crucial playoff matches.
