Iran has stated that negotiations with the United States remain unresolved despite US President Donald Trump’s assertion that an agreement is close, with Tehran insisting that no final decision has been made.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the country “has not yet reached a final conclusion regarding an agreement,” dismissing reports suggesting that a deal is imminent. He maintained that while negotiations have made significant progress, key issues remain unresolved.

Baghaei noted that “the majority of the text” of the proposed agreement has already been finalised. However, he accused the United States of introducing “excessive demands” and making “new requests” during the course of the negotiations, which he said have complicated efforts to reach a final understanding.
The spokesperson also reiterated that Iran would not compromise on what it considers its fundamental red lines, stressing that any agreement must protect the country’s core interests.
His remarks come amid renewed speculation over a possible breakthrough in US-Iran talks following comments by President Donald Trump suggesting that the two sides were close to finalising an agreement. However, Tehran’s latest statement indicates that substantial differences remain despite progress on much of the negotiating text.
The developments underscore the continuing challenges facing the negotiations, with both sides yet to bridge remaining gaps before any formal agreement can be concluded.
