Three people were killed and two others seriously injured after a Goa-regis tered SUV plunged off the road at Malgaon Ghat on the Mumbai-Goa Highway on Mon day afternoon. According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred around 1 pm while the vehicle was travelling from Sawantwadi towards Goa via the Nemale road en route to Kankavli. The driver is suspected to have lost control while negotiating a stretch of the ghat section, causing the SUV to veer off the road and crash into a gorge. The impact was severe, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged. Among those killed were Guirim Panch member Shrimati Pandurang Nanodkar (58), Vilasini Satardekar (54) of Kankavli, and Pandurang Nanodkar (65), who suc cumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hos pital (GMC), Bambolim. Two other occupants of the vehicle, Sun ny Nanodkar (36) and Ujwala Kambli (48), sustained serious injuries and were rushed to GMC Bambolim for treatment.
Police and emergency personnel rushed to the scene soon after the accident and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and further investiga tions are underway.
