During his address from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced six critical initiatives designed to drive youth development, national security, and technological independence.
1. AI Skill Training for One Crore Youth Underlining India’s growing focus on emerging technologies following the national AI Summit, the Prime Minister announced a comprehensive nationwide skilling drive. The goal is to provide AI training to 10 million (one crore) young people over the next year. This initiative aims to equip Indian youth with world-class technical capabilities, positioning the nation as a global leader in the artificial intelligence sector.

2. Free Online Coaching for Competitive Examinations To ease the financial burden on middle-class and low-income families, the government plans to leverage its digital public infrastructure to offer free online coaching for competitive exams. PM Modi noted that reliance on costly private coaching institutes puts severe financial strain on households. By aggregating top teaching talent and digital tools, the government will build a nationwide network offering accessible test preparation.
3. Comprehensive Civil Defence Reforms Addressing modern emergency challenges, the government will overhaul the national civil defence architecture. The proposed reforms aim to train and establish a modernized, vibrant volunteer force skilled in utilizing contemporary systems to protect citizens during present-day crises and disaster scenarios.
4. Nationwide Sports Talent Hunt for Children With an eye on international sporting performance and India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, a nationwide talent identification scheme will be established for children aged 5 to 15. Recognizing that India currently competes in only a fraction of Olympic disciplines, the program will scout young prospects across the country and provide specialized training to nurture future elite athletes.
5. Expansion of Semiconductor Manufacturing Highlighting semiconductors as essential components of modern technology, electronics, and medical systems, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s push toward self-reliance. With three major semiconductor facilities already operational and beginning export production, the government plans to operationalize five to eight additional manufacturing plants over the next seven to eight years.
6. Ambitious Nuclear Energy Targets To strengthen national energy security, PM Modi set a target of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by the year 2047. Supported by recent legislative frameworks and advancements in fast breeder reactor technology, the plan includes commissioning five new nuclear reactors within the current decade to secure long-term, clean energy independence.
