Kolkata Hotel Fire: 9 Bangladeshi Nationals, Including Child, Killed

At least nine people, including a child, were killed after a massive fire broke out at a hotel on Free School Street near New Market in Kolkata in the early hours of Wednesday.

The blaze erupted around 2 am, trapping several guests inside the hotel and prompting a major rescue operation by emergency teams.

According to the fire department, all nine victims were Bangladeshi nationals who had travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment, as reported.

The hotel is located on Free School Street, close to New Market, one of Kolkata’s busiest and densely populated areas.

Initial reports indicate that the fire may have been triggered by an air-conditioner explosion. However, the exact cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over fire safety in hotels operating in the crowded central areas of Kolkata, while authorities continue to ascertain the circumstances that led to the deadly blaze.
