PERNEM: Around 249 people including forest workers were vaccinated against Kayanasur forest disease (KFD) during a drive organized by the health department at Primary School Torxem, on Wednesday.
However, just before the start of vaccination drive, one person reportedly died of KFD taking the number of people died of the disease to 13.
Sources said that till now no person was tested positive for KFD in in Torxem, but four people from Banda (Maharashtra) died of this fever so far.
The health department has recorded 90 cases of fever in Sattari villages in the last two months; of which 34 were found to be of KDF and four of whom succumbed to the disease.
In Banda 130 people have been vaccinated with the first dose, so far; and 112 people with second dose. Pregnant women have been advised not take the vaccine.
Doctors informed that they would be available once a week in Kasarwadnem Health Center for vaccination and next drive will be on March 10.
