VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council councillors from the ruling panel along with the chairperson, chief officer and municipal engineer inspected the new solid waste treatment plant, at Headland Sada, here, on Monday.
A week ago, the councillors of opposition panel along with Urban Development Minister Milind Naik had also visited the garbage plant.

Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar and Councillors Sandesh Mesta, Nilesh Navelkar, Bhavana Bhosle conducted a site inspection of the new garbage treatment plant and also the new proposed plant that is being set up to clear the legacy waste.
Speaking to media, Raut said that now people need not have to worry about the garbage issue as the legacy waste stacked at the solid waste dumping site will be cleared within four months time.
He also gave assurance that within six months the partial compound wall at the dumping site will be built, and thanked Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo for taking the garbage issues seriously and for deciding to clear the stacked 1.2 lakh tons of legacy waste.
Raut further requested the locals to offer segregated waste to the garbage collectors to make things easier and added that Goa Shipyard Limited has given MMC a MRF shed under corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds worth Rs 60 lakh.
Ward No. 1 Councillor Mesta informed that people had complained several times that garbage from the treatment plant was overflowing on the roads due to leakage and is giving foul smell. After the inspection, the MMC chairperson has assured me that the garbage issue will be resolved in the next three to four months.
Mesta further mentioned that Urban Development Minister has done a good job by taking up the issue of clearing the legacy waste and chairperson Raut has personally taken an initiative.
Councillor Navelkar opined that it is positive news that people will get relief from this garbage menace shortly.
