PORVORIM: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Wednesday said that the State Government wants to bring projects to convert Goa into a coal hub by destroying the environment, nature and wildlife
“It is the duty of the Government to be sensitive towards people’s concern and issues. People have every right to raise objections against all such decisions of the government, which are anti-people,” Kamat said.
About the Opposition’s criticism of the government he said, it is the duty of the Opposition to be the Voice of the People and raise issues in the Assembly.
“No one can be termed as anti-national if they raise objections to any of the government decisions or oppose them,” he said.
Referring to the U-turns of the government on various issues, he said, this Government is in ‘withdrawal syndrome’.
“They are on a spree of withdrawing its own anti-people, anti-Goa decisions after the people’s protests, agitations and objections,” he said.
Referring to what was said in the Governor’s Speech; Kamat pointed out how the Governor mentioned ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’.
“But the rising cases of Drugs in Goa indicate that Goa is moving towards becoming “drug destination,” he quipped.
“Governor mentions transparency is key to Good Governance, but the Goa Public Service Guarantee Act has been kept in abeyance by the Government in the last seven years,” he added.
“Governors speech mentions ‘Goans are very sensitive about the Environment’ and ‘Goa is rich in Flora and Fauna’. But in reality the Government wants to bring projects by destroying the environment, nature and wildlife. Goa should not be converted into a coal hub,” he said.
He said the Governor’s speech also refers to the ‘One State One Sports’ Policy of the Central Government and that Goa is assigned ‘Swimming’ under the said scheme.
“But, in reality not even a single swimming pool is functional in Goa,” he added.
