COLLEM: Speakers at the Goa Mining People Front meeting at Shigao-Collem on Thursday demanded immediate resumption of the mining activity in the State to save the livelihood of thousands of mining dependents.
Speaking at the meeting, union leader Christopher Fonseca demanded that legal mining operation should start in the State as early as possible to save the livelihood of thousands of mining-affected people. He appealed to the people to join public rally at Panjim on August 29.
“I appeal the State authorities to support the rally in larger interest of the Goan people,” added Fonseca.
Adv Mangeshkar said the mining ban has not only crippled State’s economy, but has also adversely affected the socio-economic life of the people.
“The mining ban affected businessmen, fish vendors, mine workers battery and others are also facing great distress,” he said and added “BJP and Congress parties are responsible for the stoppage of mining activity in the State.”
Suresh Dessai said the mining activity should be started for the livelihood of the people of Goa. “It’s the duty of the State and Central governments and Supreme Court to sort out the issue on humanitarian grounds, as thousands of mining affected people are suffering,” said Dessai.
Prakash Dessai, Guru Gaonkar, Balaji Gawas, Naresh Shigaonkar and Suhas Naik also spoke on the occasion.
