During the BAC meeting, members raised the need to increase the duration of the sitting of the House during the monsoon session, likely to be summoned in July. The members were of the opinion that the monsoon session should not be less than 21-working days.
Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo said that the duration of the House should have been more but due to the CM’s ill-health, it has been curtailed. “I think July Assembly Session should be of minimum 21 working days. The members have put up their demand before the CM about same,” he added.
Lobo said there are many things to be discussed, amendments waiting to happen, bills, resolutions to be tabled. “When there is such a short session, there is no quality of debate that happens in house. Quality of debate goes down as every member wants to talk but he is given only four to five minutes to talk,” he said.
“That much time is not sufficient. We discussed this today when Leader of Opposition brought to the notice of the CM that the session is short. The CM also said that we will have a longer session,” the Calangute BJP MLA added.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, during the meeting, demanded that the winter session be extended to a minimum of 10-days, but did not get any assurance on this.
