PORVORIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday stated that the BJP government has fulfilled the promise given to the residents of Aldona to construct the Calvim-Carona bridge.
Parrikar was speaking after inaugurating the bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 55 crore, in the presence of massive crowd.
“There was delay of only 4 months to complete the bridge, as distance between two middle spans was required to be increased from 100 to 120 metres. This slight change in the design of the bridge delayed its completion,” said Parrikar.
Parrikar further said the foundation stone for Chodan-Salvador do Mundo bridge costing about Rs 116 crore, will be laid shortly.
“Similarly, Amona-Virdi bridge costing Rs 33 crore will also be completed soon. The BJP government is committed
to the development of all constituencies. Though there is a financial constraint due to mining ban, the State government will strive to fulfil the commitments made to the electorate,” assured Parrikar.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said the connectivity of islands is very importance as it saves valuable time.
North Goa MP Shripad Naik stated the prime objective of the BJP government is development of the State and will endeavour to provide good governance.
Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo also spoke about the development undertaken in the constituency and enumerated the proposed developments.
On the occasion, one minute silence was observed for the departed souls.
It may be recalled that the demand for the Calvim-Carona bridge became vociferous especially after the Aldona bus tragedy on February 18, 2012 that killed four schoolgirls and two adults.
