Monitoring panel to visit Goa later this week

PANJIM: The Goa government appointed committees to verify the extracted iron ore lying in the state have completed inspection and verification of ore at seven jetties, the report of which would be submitted to the monitoring committee headed by Dr U V Singh. The committee would be visiting Goa later this week.
The committees, headed by assistant directors have completed inspection of seven private jetties- Vagus (V M Salgaoncar), Amona (Sesa Goa) (North Goa), Bandekar, Shelvan, Kapshe and two more in south Goa.
“The inspection includes total quantity and grade of iron ore. The detail report would be submitted to the committee before conducting further verification,” officer said.
After jetties, the ore lying at mining leases, beneficiary plants outside lease areas and stockyards would be verified and an inventory would be prepared, the official added.
The Supreme Court appointed committee members who were in Goa in the first week of December had issued directions to the Mines Department for re-verifying the extracted unused ore stacked at jetties, stockyards and lease site and to submit the report at the earliest. The monitoring committee has been directed to submit their report on e-auction of ore by February 18.
The apex court in its interim relief has allowed e-auction of 11.48 million tonnes of iron ore lying in the state under supervision of monitoring committee. The entire process of verification of the inventory, e-auction and deposit of sale proceeds in fixed deposits would be monitored by the committee.
Singh had earlier told Herald that the committee is looking at e-auctioning on the lines of Karnataka, where e-auction of minerals is in place since 2011 following Supreme Court order.
