VASCO: Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) slammed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai for not acting against the illegal use of LED lights and bull/pair trawling which GRE had asked to ban.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, GRE expressed its disappointment with Sawant for his failure to fulfill his assurance given to the fishing community of Goa.
GRE President Agnelo Rodrigues opined that former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar would have acted within few days on this issue.
Rodrigues further said that in 2016 the ban on LED lights and bull/pair trawling was implemented. “But it has been three years now we are running from pillar to post to implement the ban but the present government seem to be in favour of few ones. Some people are the biggest violator of fishing regulation rules, as they don’t only exploit the laws by using LED lights with 24,000 watts and 50kv generator but also use high speed 700HP engines,” he said.
He claimed that bull trawling has exceeded the boat size too and few individuals are looting the entire marine resources. “If this continues, then, the entire fishing community and the people of Goa will not have fish,” Rodrigues opined.
