One of Goa’s biggest talent hunts, Goencho Avaz has been a platform
for many Goans to showcase their voices and going by the earlier rounds, this
will surely be the grandest of all the editions of this event dedicated to
Goa’s spirit of singing in Konkani.
The event, an initiative of Herald Group and Ulhas Jewellers,
supported by Government of Goa Directorate of Art and Culture, is now set for
its grand finale. After shortlisting contestants from all over the state
through auditions in the north and the south of Goa, the competition is now
down to seventeen contestants in the solo category and five teams in the duet
category. Sheena Gracias, one of the finalists of the competition, is very
happy to be a part of this event. Exclaiming her enthusiasm, Sheena, who
resides in an orphanage in Margao, states that she is thankful for being
provided an opportunity to showcase her voice. She is excited and looks
forwards to the finale so that she can perform and prove her prowess as a
singer. Another contestant in the same category is Priyanka Lone; she will be singing
a Konkani pop song and it shall be a new experience for her as she is a
classical singer. She also praised the organisers as Goencho Avaz provides
fresh new faces a platform for their singing abilities. She was a part of the
first edition of the competition and now feels she is in a much friendlier
environment as she gets along well with the other competitors. One of the
youngest contestants in the solo category is Jatin Chari; he is a
sixteen-year-old boy who shared his excitement over a phone line, saying that
he is preparing to the best of his ability in order to win the competition.
Scully D’Souza, one of the winners of the first edition of the competition,
will also be performing at the event. She is a Goan based in Muscat and
believes that the source of inspiration for her music comes from her family.
She looks forward to enthralling the audience with her songs on stage at the
finale. Agnelo (Borim) will be the master of ceremonies of the event.
The finale will be held on August 12, 2016 at Kala Academy
Panjim at 6:45 pm. And the finale in the south of Goa will be held on August 14
at Ravindra Bhavan Margao at 6 pm. Passes are available at the Herald office,
