In the midst of a significant controversy surrounding the severe criticism and fat-shaming directed at Team India captain Rohit Sharma, an older social media post by Congress leader Shama Mohamed regarding the prominent batter Virat Kohli has come to light.
In a 2018 post on X, Ms. Mohamed criticized Kohli, who was the Indian captain at the time, for his statement suggesting that “those who prefer English and Australian batsmen should not live in India”. This incident gained attention when Kohli, in November 2018, read messages from fans and responded to them. One particular message expressed a preference for English and Australian batsmen over Indian players and labeled Kohli as an “over-rated batsman”.

Kohli expressed his disapproval by stating, “I believe it is inappropriate for you to reside in India while expressing admiration for other nations. If you do not appreciate my presence, that is acceptable; however, I find it contradictory for you to live in our country while favoring other aspects. It is essential to reassess your priorities.”
In response, the Congress leader criticized the Indian cricketer for his comments, noting, “Virat Kohli participates in a sport that originated in Britain, earns substantial income from promoting international brands, held his wedding in Italy, and cites Herschelle Gibbs as his favorite cricketer and Angelique Kerber as the best tennis player, yet he advises those who admire foreign players to leave India”.
