VASCO: Following directions from the South Goa Collector, the office of Mormugao Mamlatdar on Thursday commenced the process to take physical possession of the prime land admeasuring 3964 square meters that was leased out to Shri Dev Damodar Charitable Trust.
Collector Anjali Sehrawat issued orders revoking the memorandum of lease of land dated December 14, 1987, on Wednesday, and directed Mamlatdar to take possession of the property within the next 7 days from the date of receipt of her order.
The property was leased out to Shri Dev Damodar Charitable Trust for the construction of an auditorium, but since the trust failed to construct the auditorium as per the condition laid down in the memorandum of lease, the government recently decided to take back the land so that the same can be used for better public purpose.
“Yes, as soon as I received the order, I issued the copy of the same to the party. Now within seven days we will take physical possession of the land and I hope the occupants will give me peaceful possession,” Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu said.
“Also last month when I had inspected the site I had come to know that the land is currently used as private parking facility for vehicles while a temporary shed at the site is used by a carpenter family as accommodation. I have already asked my talathi to ask the party to vacate the structures or else I will have to go for forceful possession,” the Mamlatdar said.
Meanwhile, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has called the development and the State government’s action as a victory for the people.
