PANJIM: The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) has scrapped the high-end luxury eco-resort at Ella, Old Goa. The decision was taken during the Board meeting and after nearly 14,000 objections were received by the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce, against the proposed project.
The Goa IPB in its 33rd meeting held on May 15, 2023 had granted in-principle approval to the proposal of M/s Laterite Resorts to develop a high-end luxury eco resort at Ella, Old Goa village and recommended for declaration of investment promotion area limited to settlement zone of 5,825 square metres and natural cover 4,531.66 square metres in survey No 89/0 at Ella village of Tiswadi taluka.

The Goa-IPB had recommended the proposal for declaration of investment promotion area to the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce (DITC), who processed the said request for proclamation and the proclamation in respect of “Investment Promotion Area” was published in local newspapers. Following this, the DITC received nearly 14,000 objections.
Later, the DITC submitted the proposal to the government for a decision wherein the competent authority advised to place the matter before the Goa-IPB, for review.
Last year, the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department had also issued a notification making No Objection Certificate (NOC) mandatory for any development within 200 metres of the ancient monuments and archaeological sites at Old Goa from the competent authority constituted under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
