St Anthony’s Marna outplay DBO Fatorda

TUEM: St Anthony Marna outplay Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the FC Tuem Champions Trophy, 1st Inter village football tournament, organised by FC Tuem in association with CAM group of Companies at DSYA ground, Tuem.

Both the teams started on a very fast pace. Videsh Sawant opened the account for St Anthony in the 7th minute of play with a rasping shot which crashed into the Don Bosco Oratory’s net. However, before St Anthony could enjoy the lead DBO Fatorda restored parity when Maxwell Furtado headed home in the 10th minute. Sangam Pednekar provided the assist.

In the next minute DBO’s Maxwell Furtado was tripped by defender Lavnay Shirodkar of St Anthony inside the penalty area wherein referee Jan Rodrigues had no hesitation to point towards the penalty spot. Fatorda, however, failed to convert the penalty. 

In the 19th minute Pushparaj Mandrekar of Marna put his team ahead with a brilliant header.

Post resumption the well- balanced teams produced attacking football much to the delight of the crowd.

In the 58th minute Hanslum Furtado’s shot hit the crossbar of St Anthony’s goal and again in the 61st minute Hanslum’s shot just missed by a whisker. Vipul Pednekar and Videsh Sawant of St Anthony were cautioned by referee for reckless tackles.
