Ameya was the 60th seed at the start of the tournament, he took the titled players by surprise with his scintillating performance as he won against higher seed players IM Nigmatov Ortik (2494) of Uzbekistan, IM Batsuren Dambasren(2454) of Mongolia, IM Aditya Mittal (2430) of India, Davis, Holden (1817) of England, and drew with Raghunandan Kaumandur Srihari (2449), Lobanov Sergei (2516) of Russia IM Agmanov Zhandos (2403) of Kazakisthan .
He had 4 wins and 3 draws to tally 5.5 points out of the possible 11 rounds.
Ameya had already achieved rating of 2410, and now he needs another norm to qualify as an IM.
