VASCO: Following a clash between two political groups on Sunday, Mormugao Police have registered five FIRs, in which Power Minister Milind Naik has also been named.
According to police they received five complaints, three counter cases of rioting and two counter cases of molestation. The first complaint was lodged by one Naresh Pirankar against 11 known persons and five unknown persons for threat and abuse. A second complaint was lodged by Shradha Amonkar, who is wife of Congress candidate Sankalp Amonkar, against nine known and 15 unknown persons.
The third complaint was lodged by Manuel Fedrick Estiberio against seven known persons. A mass molestation complaint was filed by a 35-year-old woman against 13 persons, and another mass complaint of molestation was filed by a woman against one known and six unknown persons.
Both the molestation complaints have been booked under Section 354 of IPC, while the other three complaints have been registered as non cognizable offences. Mormugao Police are investigating to find out whether the molestation complaints are genuine or not and then take action.
Reacting to the complaints, Naik said, “It’s a false complaint against me and my supporters. Still if a complaint has been lodged then let the police verify and the truth will come out.”
Similarly, Congress supporters claimed that Naik’s supporters have lodged a false molestation complaint against them and have been using police to target them.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Sunday night clash, South Goa SP Chandan Chaudhary said, “Yesterday there were some clashes in Mormugao, we have taken action as per law.”
She added, “We have got around 26 companies of Central para military forces (CPMF) of which five companies are deployed at Vasco sub division. I am sure that the visibility of the CPMF companies, along with the local police, will give lot of confidence to the people.”
