Story: After the death of her husband, Milagrin (Lourdes) single-handedly brings up her only son, Joy (Joshua/Benzer). Her well-to-do brother-in-law, Baltazar (Jaju), is willing to give him a job, but what will the future hold?
Review:
The story revolves around three different yet related families. Two families stay under one roof, while the third resides in the vicinity.
When Milagrin’s son, Joy, receives his First Holy Communion, none of her relatives partake in the celebration, except Joy’s godfather, Nazareth (Franco), who comes for the special occasion all the way from Mumbai.
Once Joy completes his studies, he starts looking out for a decent job. His uncle, Baltazar, who assists people by providing loans, is willing to assist him and employs him as his driver after buying a new car. He lays down several terms and conditions. Joy obliges and immediately joins duty.
Meanwhile, believing that Joy has found gainful employment, Milagrin, who is employed at her brother Rafael’s (Pascoal Rodrigues) residence as a maid, quits her job.
Rafael’s daughter, Meena (Meena), who is pursuing her studies in Bangalore, returns home. She happens to meet Joy and asks him for a lift; after much hesitation, he obliges. The news that he offers lifts to girls reaches Baltazar and he instantly fires Joy.
Now, with both, mother and son being unemployed, how will they earn their living? Who is willing to assist Joy in finding another job? Will Joy succeed in doing so and make his dreams come true? What is the fate of Baltazar, who boasts about his riches? What about the other relatives?
‘Ghorchim’, a tiatr penned by Manuel Pereira and directed by Comedian Joana, focuses on relatives in families, who instead of assisting in moments of adversities, take advantage of the situation and exploit some of them. There are various developments taking place in three families, besides insults and humiliations and the unity that follows at the end.
Lourdes plays the role of a mother in all simplicity, while Joshua as a teen is impressive with his prompt dialogues. Benzer enacts his character with gusto. Jaju and Jessie come together as a couple, and they portray the opposite characteristics with aplomb. As a spoilt brat, Franky Gonsalves is apt, but overacts sometimes. Dola and Pascoal team as another couple, with the woman dominating the man. Meena is comfortable in her character. As godfather, Franco makes brief entries with ease.
In the comedy acts, Nato, Saby and Joana come together to form a comical trio and they entertain with some laughter pills.
In the category of songs, Benzer and Elaine lead with the opening song, followed by Benny de Aldona, Jr Reagan, Joana with solos. There are two duets from Jaju and Lourdes, Jr Reagan and Elaine and a duo from Dola and Meena. There are two trios from Tony, Benzer and Jr Reagan and Lourdes, Joana and Jessie Dias, the latter receiving an encore.
But among all, teen Joshua Pereira singing and playing the keyboard and violin is worth the watch.
