MAYEM: With a lead of 24,287 votes in Bicholim taluka, the BJP ensured one of the highest margins to its candidate Shripad Naik among the talukas in North Goa.
A jubilant Deputy Speaker and Mayem MLA Anant Shet said the party had been victorious “only due to the support of the voters and I express my gratitude to all of them.”
Voicing similar sentiments, Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant added, “Different schemes launched by the State government with regards to mining and all-round development were also responsible for this victory.”
While the BJP secured 14,815 votes in Mayem constituency, followed by Sanquelim constituency (12994) and Bicholim constituency (12959), the Congress could get only 6,268 votes in Bicholim, 5028 in Mayem and 5185 in Sanquelim.
“This victory once again proved that Bicholim taluka is the bastion of BJP. Besides, the absolute majority will help the BJP government to run a stable government at the Centre,” remarked Vallabh Salkar, a prominent industrialist from Bicholim.
