Ideas by the bay

Good, bad and great ideas will fill the skies as the two-day ‘The Goa Project’ returns in its third edition in Goa. The ‘unconference’ will be held on February 27 and 28 at Bay 15 in Dona Paula

A diverse curated audience is all set to gather to meet, talk, listen,
present and discuss for two days of interactions as The Goa Project (TGP) is
scheduled to take place on February 27 and 28 in Dona Paula. According to the
organisers, the ‘unconference’, as they like to call it, aims to provide
support and funding for 5 projects in partnership with Wishberry – an online
crowdfunding platform for creative projects.

The first edition of TGP was held in 2012 and since then, the community
has supported and conversed on ideas, giving them the necessary boost to become
reality. Udhay Shankar N, one of the co-founders of The Goa Project, adds, “The
best example could be Menstrupedia – a friendly guide for girls and women to
stay healthy and active during their periods. This outstanding success story
from The Goa Project in its first edition earned the support of the TGP
community and was able to not just crowdsource funds but also create a lot of
buzz which resulted in phenomenal media exposure. In 2015, the project aims to
facilitate funding for few other projects. In the previous editions, two
projects have got funded through conversations and presentations given at TGP.”

As a confluence of technology, art and creativity, participants’
applications were invited for projects across a wide spectrum of 13 categories
that include the likes of – App, Art, Dance, Design, Fashion, Film, Food, Game,
Interactive Media, Music, Publishing, Technology and Theatre. What also makes
TGP different from a regular online crowdfunding campaign is that it offers an
offline crowdsourcing platform to its participants, where an audience of
200-300 interested, supportive and well-networked individuals offer not just
their money but also their inputs to refine ideas, provide visibility to the
project and recommendations to investors who are more likely to support an
initiative of that kind.

TGP is about beginning conversations and turning them into action and
TGP Projects will be the platform to incubate the next 5 big ideas. “We hope to
see lot of conversations, workshops and collaborations on location. The
audience can choose how they wish to support their project: through these very
conversations, providing initial funds and/or getting it out to their
networks”, says Kavita Gonzales, one of the core TGP team in charge of projects
this year.
