On October 23 and 24, 2015, ‘Keygen Unleashed’, a two-day musical concert, will be organised by Keegan’s Help Foundation in memory of late Keegan Afonso. Apart from entertainment, with two bands and music deejays performing for the night, the main purpose of the concert is to create awareness about leukaemia and the funds raised will help leukaemia patients in Goa. This noble idea dawned upon Ninio Correia when he saw his 16-year-old cousin Keegan suffering from leukaemia. Son of Moon Charles Afonso and Fiona Pedrinha Santos e Afonso, Keegan was the elder brother to Ian and Kate.
“A month before Keegan passed away, I saw the growing expenses for Keegan’s medication and I had decided to do an event to gather funds for his medication and bone marrow transplant. I got in touch with my friend, Sammy Coelho and we started ideating on a fundraiser which would be something different,” says Ninio, a final year IT Engineering student of Padre Conceicao College Of Engineering, Verna.

He further adds, “Initially, we were a bit hesitant as an event requires a lot of planning and we wanted it to be well organised. A week before Keegan passed away, we finally decided to go ahead with the event. We got the venue sorted on October 6, 2015 and then on October 9, 2015, we actually planned out how to go about everything to get this event done. Due to medications, Keegan was in semi-coma and was using an oxygen mask and when I gave him the news, he laughed and asked his father to explain everything. But sadly, in three hours, he left us that night. Keegan was really proud to learn that something of this sort was happening for him and that is the same reason why we are going ahead with it. He was very optimistic and used to text me every night unless his day was painful due to the treatment.”
The event is called Keygen Unleashed because this was the name of Keegan’s YouTube channel where he would post videos on game reviews where he used to play the game and run thorough the commentary with a few jokes in it. “I decided to use the same name to motivate him to come out of his sickness. It was also a promise I made to him that I would start a company in that name to show him that it wasn’t the end of the world for him.”
The foundation, Keegan’s Help Foundation, will help create awareness about leukaemia, “I have seen the struggle one has to go through for treatment of leukaemia. From the past nine months, it was very difficult getting the finances for the treatment and he even approached various foundations in Goa but they had various criteria to be met. Through Keegan’s Help Foundation, we will help people suffering from leukaemia as we have gone through tough times,” explains Ninio. The foundation will be inaugurated on October 23, 2015.
The two-day musical concert, ‘Keygen Unleashed’, will feature bands, Take Five and Electric Pulse and deejays, Floh-Tek, Reonn, Shania Tashya, Saheet Dessai, Adhish and Dhirad. They will perform for the cause at Taleigao Community Hall on October 23 and 24, 2015 from 5 pm onwards.
