The communicator

This week, Prof the Popular continues its journey southward to Raia, where Café catches up with Lorraine Fernandes, from V M Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education

Lorraine Fernandes, the Assistant Professor in English and
Communications is the pet of her students at V M Salgaocar Institute of
International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) in Raia. With a Master’s degree
in Mass Communication and a second degree in MA in English, this scholar comes
with years of industry experience in the field of communications, both in India
and abroad. But her love for sharing knowledge with youngsters encouraged her
to venture into teaching.

Looking back on her time with her beloved students, the
teacher recalls one of her most memorable moments with them. “My first
memorable campus experience was when the students, faculty and staff at VMSIIHE
got together with a common goal to hold a fantastic Diwali programme which
included music, dance and a scrumptious dinner, all prepared with a whole lot
of love and togetherness. This in itself was proof of our students’
capabilities of which I am proud of,” she shares.

Lorraine’s connection with her students goes beyond the
curriculum and she’s never at a loss for words when it comes to giving them
some sound advice. “I think that my students need to always bear certain facts
in mind, things they should always remember. They should never stop learning
more about themselves and about everything around them; that being true to
oneself is paramount; that one is meant to fail in order to learn from past
mistakes and thus obtain success, though not intentionally. Finally, they must
always remember that life is so beautiful, that one only needs to allow oneself
to enjoy it all, yet always in a good and right spirit,” says this wise
educator.
