Earth Hour observed at Big Foot
PANJIM: ‘Earth Alive’ is a new term coined so as to personalize our ailing Planet and activate the sentiments of the very beings it nurtures, the Humans. Inorder to create awareness Big Foot Lotoulim hosted Earth Hour on March 23, from 7:30 pm onwards, with a vigil of sorts, till 9:30 pm. Lit oil lamps and candles dotted the premises at Ancestral Goa, the Big Foot. Prayers were read to the Earth for her protection and thanksgiving for all that she gives to humankind so selflessly. The Earth Hour is a program; Maendra plans to host every week, so as to create an alert of sorts, albeit in a small way. I plan on promoting the ‘Earth Hour’ each week, every month. It is a small price to pay for the vast damage and waste that we humans are perpetrating, says Maendra.

Medical publication released
PANJIM: The Indian Academy of Cytologists have released a Medical research publication in Pathology recently. The topics covered are clot examination in serous effusions, breast pathology, liquid based cytology, head and neck cancers, ovarian cancers, CSF, lymphomas and leukemias, pathology teaching, learning and assessment, brain tumors, endometrial tumors, pediatric tumors, thyroid lesions, oral cancers, urinary bladder tumors, skin tumors, gastrointestinal tumors, ultrasound and CT guided FNAC, cervical cytology, spleen pathology, thalassemia, lung tumors and pediatric autopsy. Medical camp to be held at Mapusa
PANJIM: Corporation Bank in association with Wockhardt Hospitals Goa will be organizing a free health/urology checkup camp on the occasion of Wellness Week on March 27 at Corporation Bank, Taliwada, near Mapusa Municipality from 10 am to 1 pm. The camp will be inaugurated by Sudhir Khandolkar, Chairperson, Mapusa Municipality. B Divakara Shenoy, Zonal Head, Corporation Bank will be presiding over the function.
Holi at BPS Club
MARGAO: The Sanskruti Jatan Mandal, Madgaon will organize Holi, the festival of colours, on March 27 at BPS Club, Margao from 9 am.
The main objective of the festival is to bring together all sections of the society to strengthen the bond between different religions, caste and creed as well as to further cement the communal harmony in Goa.
The mandal will involve students from National School for Blind, St Cruz, Gujarati Samaj (mentally challenged), Margao in the celebrations with the intention of providing an opportunity to these disadvantaged children to share the platform with their normal counterparts, whereby the less fortunate children could also enjoy, mingle and mix with the more healthy students and citizens in a free atmosphere to enhance their confidence and derive the same degree of happiness.
The event will have live orchestra, DJ, traditional dhol-tashe with the highlight being the rain dance and paintball. eco-friendly colours will be available at the venue.

Ravi’s Shigmo panel offers prayers
PONDA: Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmotsav Samiti (PTASS) on Monday offered prayers at Shree Mahalasa Temple, Mardol, to seek the blessings for the Shigmo float parade in the Ponda city on March 27.
Incidentally, Antruz Mahal Shigmotsav Samiti (AMSS) had offered prayers on Sunday.
PTASS President Ravi Naik along with organising president Adv Satish Pilgaonkar, Govind Gaude, Damu Naik, former PMC councillors and various others members offered prayers at Shree Mahalasa Temple, Mardol. Later, the members offered prayers at Shree Katamgal, Farmagudi, and Shree Zareshwar, Ponda.
Offering prayers at Shree Mahalasa Temple is an annual tradition, where the organisers seek blessings from the almighty for the Shigmo event.
