MARGAO: The Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) has vowed to continue its fight with NUSI for the enhancement of ex-gratia relief from Rs 200 to minimum Rs 1500.
Thanking the NRI department for working tirelessly towards the implementation of the seafarers’ pension scheme, GSAI president Dixon Vaz said the Association will meet soon to chalk out the future course of action in making NUSI enhance the ex-gratia relief at the earliest.

Vaz also questioned the intentions of NUSI for suddenly taking up the issue of Indian CDCs to seafarers employed on passenger liners and for advertising the NUSI education grant scheme for the children of the seafarers.
“NUSI has given a grant of only Rs 2000 when it ought to have been at least Rs 5000 per year since this scheme is more than 15 years old, but was not highlighted all these years”, he said, while urging NUSI to work hard to provide service to the seafarers.
Meanwhile, GSAI has welcomed the Chief Minister’s decision to open a new passport office in South Goa.
He said GSAI will celebrate ‘WORLD MARITIME DAY ON April 5 in Margao and will highlight the Indian CDC issue among the Passenger line seafarers.
