Majumdar to speak at Singapore forum
PANJIM: Amit Majumdar of Porvorim and a steel industry professional with five decades of hands-on experience in the Indian steel industry, has been invited to speak at the Singapore Iron Ore Forum 2013, in Singapore from May 6 to 9. The Forum is being organized by Singapore Stock Exchange and CU Steel of China. Majumdar will be speaking on ‘The Indian Iron Ore Conundrum’ – a highly debatable topic not only in India but also across the world today. He is the only speaker from India at this prestigious conference.

Majumdar has worked with Steel Authority of India (SAIL) for thirty years across three of its plants and its corporate office from 1963 till 1993. His last position in SAIL was chief executive of VISL, Bhadravati which he is credited to having turned around.
Dr Dhuri wins veterinarian award
PANJIM: At the recently held celebrations of “World Veterinary Day” organized by the Goa State Veterinary Council at International Centre Dona Paula, Dr R B Dhuri, veterinarian currently serving as Manager, Goa State Cooperaive Milk Producers Union Limited, Ponda, Goa was presented with the Veterinarian of the Year award by chief guest and Secretary (AH), Neeraj Semwal. Dr Benjamin Braganca, Director of AH and VS was the guest of honour.
Dr Raghunath B Dhuri, a graduate from the veterinary college Kerala Agricultural University, Mannuthy Kerala has undergone several trainings at the national and international level besides having many informative articles and published research papers to his credit in various national and international journals. He has been the recipient of several awards and appreciations in the past too.
House congratulates sports teams
PANJIM: The State Legislative Assembly unanimously passed two congratulatory motions on Thursday to laud the performances of Goa Blind and Para Judo team for wining medals for Goa in the first National Blind Judo Championship at Lucknow, and Tchoukball girls’ team for winning Gold medal for the State. The first congratulatory motion was tabled by MLA Glenn Ticlo, while MLA Ganesh Gaonkar moved the second motion. The Goa Blind and Para Judo team comprising four Judo players Mohammad Raichur, Prasad Pandarphale, Amit Birje and Sahid Sheikh won the 1st National Blind Judo Championship held at Lucknow. The Tchoukball sport held at Ponda, saw the participation of 25 boys and 14 girls teams from across the country. The Goa’s girls’ team snatched top honours in this championship. The MLAs urged the govt to encourage both sports in the State.
27% reservation for OBC students
PANJIM: While declaring 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in the current financial year, Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik assured that he would ensure that all government and private professional and non-professional colleges implement the reservation. Naik said that OBCs currently enjoy 19.5 percent reservation in different educational institutes of the State. He called on the people to approach government in case any colleges deny reservations to OBCs. “Action would be initiated against those institutes,” he said. According to government records, 11 educational institutes including Goa Medical College, Goa Dental College, Pharmacy and Architecture College and others have already been implementing reservations for OBC students. He was replying to the question tabled by Vishnu Surya Wagh.
