TIES marks 10th anniversary
PANJIM: TIES – (Towards Inclusion Everywhere in Society), a parent support group of children with disabilities in association with the Holy Cross High School, Bastora recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Life Skills Resource Room- the first of its kind classroom in Goa which is based on the concept of inclusive education.
After 11 schools had rejected the special educator’s – Ms Giselle Lobo’s idea to start a resource room, it was Holy Cross High School that opened its doors in 2003. Later schools like Chubby Cheeks High School, Porvorim, Lourdes Convent High School, Saligao and Holy Cross School, Siolim followed and did open such classrooms where children with disabilities are educated along with regular children.
A souvenir was released to commemorate the event with a exhibition of the works done by the four participating resource rooms. The highlight of the exhibition was a large mural of artwork – 10 feet x 6 feet done by the students of the four resource rooms along with the regular students of the four schools.
NRB Group starts new venture
PANJIM: Managing Director and Chairman of the NRB Group Narayan N Bandekar, added another feather to his cap. The management and staff of the NRB Group gathered together to celebrate the launch of the new event venue “Celebrations by NRB Events” in Vasco.
As the name says it – the ground has been created by the NRB Events for celebrations. Under the guidance of Bandekar, the ground will be an opportunity for many to celebrate their special events within exclusive settings.
The area is centrally located and is has basic amenities like running water and electricity. The ground has been paved and also has a stage for performances.
Celebrations by NRB Events can hold up to 250 -300 people and will be made available for everyone.
Rs 23 lakh worth equipment stolen
CURCHOREM: Some persons stole hatching plant equipment worth Rs 23 lakh at Costimol-Kalay, Sanguem.
According to Curchorem Police, Subhasis Roy of Chembur-Mumbai complained that some persons stole hatching plant equipment of 160 TPH, all worth Rs 23 lakh from an open place.

Mangalsutra snatched at Zuari Nagar
VASCO: Two persons snatched mangalsutra worth about Rs 70,000 from a woman at Zuari Nagar on Monday.
According to Verna Police, Kamala Parsi of Zuari Nagar complained that the two persons came on the motorcycle and the pillion rider snatched gold mangalsutra worth about Rs 70,000 from her neck and fled from the spot. PSI Anand Shirodkar is investigating the case.
Kerosene quota for December
PANJIM: The ration cardholders are informed that 3.5 liters of Kerosene each per ration card will be distributed in December, to cardholders without LPG connection. The cardholders who are not having LPG connection are requested to draw their Kerosene quota from the respective retailers.
Complaints, if any, in case of non-supply/short supply of Kerosene be made to the Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Panjim.
In case of cardholders attached to the retailers whom no allocation of Kerosene is done, should approach the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Panjim for necessary instructions.
Conference at Goa Science Centre
PANJIM: The 13th All India Conference of Heads of Science Museums/Centres is scheduled to be held at Goa Science Centre from December 13 to 15 under the stewardship of National Council of Science Museum, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The topic of the conference is ‘New Generation Exhibits – Physical & Virtual’. The conference will be inaugurated by Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on December 13 at 11am in the auditorium of the Centre. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be chief guest for the valedictory function on December 15 at 10 am.
The conference will provide an insight into the role of science museums/centres in enhancing the understanding of science among the students and creating scientific temper among the general masses. The conference which is going to be held for the first time in Goa is being attended by leading Heads of Science Museums / Centres from all over the country, who will deliberate upon the issues related to topic of the conference.
