Idol defiled at Quepem
CURCHOREM: Miscreants defiled the idol of Lord Paikdev at Janode Malkar, Quepem, by tying a metallic chain around the idol.
According to Quepem Police, Deelip Prabhu Dabolkar of Sanguem complained that the incident occurred sometime between 11 am on October 10 and 9 am on October 13 when the miscreants tied a metallic chain around the idol of Lord Paikdev, thereby insulting the religious feelings of the devotees.
Quepem Police registered the case under Section 295 IPC and PI Ram Asare is investigating the case.
Socorro local dies in Bastora mishap
PORVORIM: A 27-year-old motorcycle rider from Socorro died after he was knocked down by a vehicle at Tar junction, Bastora, on Sunday.
According to Mapusa Police, Gaurish Mhamal was proceeding on his motorcycle (GA-03-Q-4275) from Porvorim towards Mapusa when the unidentified vehicle dashed the motorcycle. Seriously injured Mhamal succumbed to injuries at District Hospital at Mapusa.
Police further informed that the accused driver fled from the spot. PSI Chandrakant Gawas is investigating the case.
One hurt in hit-and-run incident
PONDA: A pedestrian from Upper Bazar, Ponda, was injured in a hit-and-run case at Ponda.
According to Ponda Police, Nayan Priolkar was walking along the road opposite Ganganath Shopee when an unidentified motorcycle, which was proceeding from Upper Bazar to Almeida High School, knocked her down, causing her grievous injuries.
Police said the accused driver fled from the spot and Head Constable J Gawde is investigating the case.
Eight tourists rescued off Calangute
CALANGUTE: Eight tourists from Bangalore were rescued at Calangute Beach on Monday.
According to reports, the eight tourists had entered in a non-swim zone close to the water sports area. Despite request by the lifeguards to move to a safer zone, the tourists did not pay any heed and continued swimming at the same spot.
After a while, the tourists ventured into deeper waters and experienced an inward pull due to a rip current, which dragged them into the sea. Since all the victims were non-swimmers, they began struggling in the water and shouted for help. Lifeguards noticed the tourists in distress and rushed to the spot, bringing them safely ashore.
1000 cops to be trained in Gujarat
PANJIM: The more than 1000 newly inducted personnel in the Goa police force – the only batch that had not been sent for training – will finally be accommodated at the training centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
After being declined by Maharashtra Police Academy, Nashik, Police Training School, Delhi and Karnataka Police Academy, Mysore; the Gujarat Police Academy in Karai, Gandhinagar has agreed to conduct 12-month long training for the recently selected 105 police sub inspectors.
“The Nashik, Delhi and Mysore police training centres had no slots because they have their own personnel and officers who are undergoing training. But fortunately Gujarat had a slot for Goa police,” said an officer.
The exact date of the training has not been decided yet as the verification of antecedents of the PSIs is underway. “The process will possibly take a next week,” he said.
Goa Police would be offered similar training like their counterparts from Gujarat and the experience sharing would be an added benefit.
Training of the other batches ~ 23 PSIs for the IRB cadre have already begun their training at Central Training Centre of CRPF at Mudkhed, Nanded district, Maharashtra.
While training of the 450-odd IRB constables began at CRPF’s Recruit Training Centre in Tamil Nadu from October 16, training of 650-odd newly recruited constables is underway at Police Training School (PTS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya premises, both situated at Valpoi and GRP Camp, Altinho.
Divar wants back transferred doctor
PANJIM: Senior citizens and people of Divar have urged Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to revert the posting of Medical Officer Dr Sandesh Madkaikar to the Government Primary Health Centres of the island.
It is learnt that Dr Madkaikar has been transferred last month to Usgao Tisk, Ponda and replaced by a junior doctor.
Health minister in the last Assembly session had mentioned that the junior doctor should work under the supervision of the senior medical officer for at least two years in the rural areas.
“The patients have been missing the services of Dr Madkaikar, who used to serve the villagers with utmost care at the primary centre, attend personally to patients at their residences in time of emergency and provided medical advice on phone,” informed Jerry D’Souza, former panch of Sao Mathias Panchayat. Further, Jerry appealed to local MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, North Goa MP Shripad Naik and Health Minister to consider the grievances of the patients in public interest and reinstate Dr Sandesh. D’Souza also urged the newly posted junior doctor not to hesitate to visit the elderly and frail patients at their residences, especially those who cannot come to the health centres.
Shantaram Naik available today
PANJIM: Shantaram Naik MP will be available in Congress office on October 15, between 11 am and 1 pm. Naik will entertain the proposals of village panchayats, municipalities and other institutions under MPLAD. A statement issued through the office of Shantaram Naik said that Naik is interested to contribute to the infrastructure and other requirements of local self bodies. Naik will also be meeting the Collector of North Goa, Mihir Vardhan at 3 pm to make the assessment of MPLAD works.
