I welcome the historic announcement made by the Vatican and am overwhelmed by the news of Canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz as Saint of the Catholic Church by Pope Francis. It is an event of immense significance, joy and gratitude. For Catholics in general and Goans in particular, the Canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz as St Joseph Vaz, the first son of this soil elevates Goa to the state of Holy Land for Catholics of the World. It sends a message of peace, piety and brotherhood for people of all faiths and religions. We are overwhelmed with happiness and bow in reverence to St Joseph Vaz who dedicated his life as a priest in the service of humanity through prayers, piety and service to the people suffering from ignorance, poverty, disease and misery.
