The police cannot regulate traffic on long stretches of highway, but prefer to remain at speed breakers or the ends of bridges and fine people for helmets, seat belts and tint. Further licenses are issued without proper verification of the rider and drivers’ ability to handle a vehicle on the road. When will these things be forcefully discussed in the assembly? All the promoters of helmet rule don’t ride bikes and can never understand the ground level problems faced by riders in Goa. Speed breakers, badly widened roads, poles, alcohol and bad illumination are the causes of accidents. Hence what can the helmet do in this situation? The government should make helmets compulsory for Indian tourists hiring bikes as they are main cause of accidents and drunk riding on Goan roads. How many people have been put behind bars for killing and injuring people due to drunken driving in Goa? None. Please focus on the issues that need to be addressed and don’t make rules and regulations that give the traffic police a window to exploit and loot the public.
