Goans have to suffer due to power outages and power shutdown during the monsoon. Many times it is observed that street lights are lit even during the day, and at times throughout the day. Besides streetlights, high mast lights and lights in parks and gardens are also seen lit during the day. Lit streetlights during the day cost the State exchequer an estimated Rs 30 lakh which is approximately 1 per cent of the State’s electricity consumption. This is a loss of electric power the State can ill afford. We need to conserve energy and one way of going about this is to shut off streetlights during the day.
