In 1975, exactly 40 years ago, one could purchase a bunch of coriander leaves for 10 paise. The same bunch today costs Rs 5.00. From the increase in price, one could come to a conclusion that the price has shot up by 5,000% and that the Indian rupee stands devalued by the same percentage. Let us hope that our financial authorities take steps not to encourage further inflation for the sake of the overall development of our country. It is time we started strengthening our currency, for it may be too late to avoid a downward trend undergone by such currencies like the Italian lira or Zambian dollar.
